 ### Radhi and Dev: A Love Story from 1986

It is 1986. Two villages, Dhana and Matata, although close in proximity, are entirely different. Dhana is a flat village with fertile land and roads connecting it to ten neighboring villages. In contrast, Matata is a hilly village with rugged terrain and less flat land, making it quite isolated.

**Birth and Tradition:**

Radhi is born in Dhana, known for its expansive fields and vibrant community life. Dev is born in Matata, surrounded by rolling hills and challenging paths. According to traditional customs, when Radhi and Dev were five years old, their families arranged their engagement, a promise of future union. This engagement was celebrated with traditional rituals, but the children were unaware of the significant bond that had been created.

**Growing Up Separately:**

As the years go by, Radhi and Dev live separate lives in their respective villages. Radhi enjoys the bustling life in Dhana, participating in village festivals, helping with farming, and attending school. On the other hand, Dev works on his family's small farm in the hilly areas of Matata and assists with local community activities. Despite the engagement, Radhi and Dev never meet, their only connection being the distant promise made years earlier.

**Meeting:**

When Radhi and Dev turn 17, their families decide it is time for marriage. A meeting is arranged, and for the first time, Radhi and Dev see each other. This encounter is both exciting and nerve-wracking. They are introduced in a traditional manner, with a mix of curiosity and shyness in their eyes.

**Wedding Preparations:**

Once the marriage is decided, preparations begin. The union is celebrated with great pomp, showcasing the rich traditions of both villages. Dhana, being a well-connected village, hosts a grand reception with colorful decorations, music, and dance. Despite its remote location, Matata contributes traditional rituals, including a serious procession through the hills to reach Dhana. Dev rides a horse for the first time in his life, knowing he is the groom. Meanwhile, Radhi, completely covered in a bridal veil and elaborate clothes for the first time, is aware that she is the bride and is very happy. It is the year 2003, and mobile phones are non-existent in Indian villages.

**Ceremony:**

The wedding ceremony blends the traditions of both villages. In Dhana, the celebration is filled with lavish feasts and festive activities, while Matata's rituals involve traditional blessings and symbolic gestures of prosperity. Both families come together to celebrate the union, overcoming the challenges of distance and differing lifestyles.

**Challenges and Adjustment:**

After the wedding, Radhi moves to Matata, where there is no electricity and she faces challenges adjusting to the new environment. The hilly terrain and different lifestyle present difficulties, and Radhi feels disheartened as her own village, Dhana, had electricity even before her birth. Consequently, Radhi stays in Matata for a few days, then returns to her parental home, alternating between the two places for nearly a year. However, after a year, electricity reaches Matata, and a few months later, 2G mobile towers begin service in Dhana. Radhi's father buys a mobile phone, and Radhi learns to use it since she had left school after passing the 6th grade, as is common for girls in Indian villages. Now, electricity and mobile service also reach Dev’s village. Dev, having completed his 12th grade exams, buys a mobile phone. However, Radhi and Dev have never spoken directly, as Radhi remained covered and silent whenever she was in Matata.
